My first attempt at animating with Toon Boom Animate
My first animation in Toon Boom Animate. I just want to go on record that I have no idea what I'm doing. But my goal was to animate something this weekend -- learn how to use the program -- so I consider this a victory.
Hi Sev -- I went with Toon Boom because the Flash interface doesn't seem very animator-friendly. I know there are zillions of Flash fans, but I could never get past the interface. Plus I'm so used to the tools in StoryboardPro, that it's pretty easy to learn.
Of course, animation requires to think in movement, unlike comics and illustration. Be careful not to fall into the trap I see some illustrators make to rely too much on their illustration skills. Animation is a separate artform and requires separate skills.
The touch stone for animation is the bouncing ball. I recommend trying that. Seems simple, but it requires years of training to get it just right, and a lifetime to get it truly entertaining and inspiring.
Looks better than my First attempt Sherm. To answer Severin's question, Animate is not as easy to learn as Flash, but the rewards of that initial Bootcamp that you will go through is well worth it. BELIEVE ME!!
Remember, Animate ( and all Toonboom products ) are made by Animators for Animators, not developers, or programmers.

Looks great! Let us know how you progress.
Thanks, Jeff -- now that I've dipped my toe in the water, I'm gonna work on diving in more deeply. I'll be sure to keep posting my progress ^_^
Looks like fun! Is it easier than flash?

Cant' wait for a couple months from now, we'll see "my first animated cartoon". Keep it up, Sherm!
Nice. Did you know Plastic Animation Paper just went free? You may want to give that a try as well.
