Well, after thinking about it some more, I guess these would be pretty funny if you're eight years old, which is the target audience for this comic. Anyway...they're so awkwardly bizarre that they're intrisically groovy.

I think the cube has been vastly under-used in cartoons character design.

Haha. The Squarehead comics all have exactly the same gag.
They remind me of David Gale's Mustard Jar comics. And of course, Spongebob Squarepants owes a lot to the Squarehead design.
