Last week I posted an
Eddie Elephant comic book story by
H. Chambers, from Hi-Ho Comics #1 (back in 1946). Here’s another trippy tale,
Percy Pelican, which features my favorite art from the whole comic!
Make sure to check out
the previous post (and the comments for that post) for more info about the enigmatic
H. Chambers!
More great stuff, sherm!
ReplyDeletepoints for the needle - finally we get to share the in-joke!
ReplyDeleteI love the section where he's fallen down, with the sun coming over the horizon.
I like the captions at the bottom..."came the dawn."
ReplyDeleteYou've convinced me to like this drugged-up maniac. Reading his work is a very surreal experience.
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys like it! It makes me happy to look at because it's such an unusual (and well-crafted) break from the "standard" style of funny animal comics. It literally looks like it belongs in an issue of Zap Comix!
ReplyDeleteThis guy was definitely an influence on Milton Knight.
ReplyDeleteWow, that does look pretty good. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFirst Fletcher Hanks and now this!
ReplyDeleteI remember reading an interview of Robert Crumb where he mentions some comic books he read as a child with funny animal characters that looked like Donald Duck and Bugs Bunny but had other names and were completely whacked out and doing the craziest stuff.. looks like Chalmers could be the creator here.
Sherm: Could this be inked by Rudy Palais? I see his name on the splash panel. I have some stuff by Ellis Holly Chambers (some I have posted, some not) that look the same as this post with regard to drawing and character design (pencils) - but the inking is much different.
ReplyDeleteWhatever, this post is a knockout.
